Those of us with dogs are continually amazed at the intelligence of our dogs. Their memory, emotions, expressions want to tell us how much they understand. But do they understand human language?
We have seen where they can usually figure out what their master wants even if he's never heard the word before. This skill is normal in young children, who use prior knowledge to form a rough meaning of a new word.
It's all pretty fascinating to me.
Sometimes I wonder what prevents dogs from speaking. It's not their capacity to hear or understand. Some researchers believe that dogs probably have more capacity for memory than we previously believed.
