Chaka Khan's New Hashtag Celebrates Female Performers

Chaka Khan, knowing for being an accomplished performer, has taken to social media to start a new campaign.

Her #FineWomenFriday hopes to shed a light on Black women in pop culture or history who have not received enough attention. For weeks, she has continued with her mission and has encouraged others to post pictures on the hashtag.

This past Friday, the singer nominated Shirley Chisholm. Shirley was the first African American woman elected into the United States Congress. Her main focus was working with the Education and Labor Committee which is where she helped to form the Black Caucus. The legendary politician continued to make history when she ran for the presidential nomination.

My pick for #FineWomenFriday is the late Shirley Chisholm. If ever we needed more people like her in office, it's RIGHT NOW! #UnboughtAndUnbossed

As a front woman for the band Rufus, Chaka Khan started her career in the early 1970s. Over her long standing career, she has won ten Grammy’s, sold 70 million records, and has been nominated into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. Today, Khan can still be caught touring the globe signing her hits. She has paved a way and inspired a variety to African American artists that we now know in our generation.

With a resume like that, we think that Khan should be receiving the Fine Woman Friday award every week!
