According to Business Insider, revolving doors are great for keeping snow, rain, and outside noise out of a building--saving tons of money annually.

However, that was not their intended purpose. The video below shares that Theophilus Van Kennel, the inventor of the revolving door, supposedly hated holding doors open for his dates.  Thus, the revolutionary door was the solution to his social phobia. Man, if holding a door was that big of an issue, maybe you should work on that before going on a date?
