Kiefer Sutherland Explains His Desire For 'Designated Survivor'

Since 24, we've been looking for more Kiefer Sutherland. And we finally got it with Designated Survivor

E! shared the following quote from Sutherland after explaining the premise of the show, which is basically that Kiefer Sutherland becomes President of the United States after a catastrophic event that leaves him as the designated survivor of the group.

"I had no intention of doing a television show and I was very busy, but I felt I needed to give the script a cursory read so that I could at least respond with some intelligence and explain why I couldn't do it..." "And I found myself on page 22 and I remember saying, 'S--t.' I've got to go back and start from the beginning because it was shaping up so beautifully. And I remember getting to the very end of the script and realizing I was potentially holding the next ten years of my life in my hands."

Sutherland said that he felt so strongly about the story and the script that he felt it was right for him to return to a story such as this one.

Designated Survivor premieres Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. on ABC.
