"Mortal Instruments” Going from Film to ABC Family Series

While the first film was mostly DOA, ABC Family has just breathed new life into the “Mortal Instruments” franchise.

According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” the network is adding to its ranks of scripted original with a straight-to-series order for “Shadowhunters,” adapted from Cassandra Clare’s book series.

“’Shadowhunters’ is a big epic saga that will resonate with viewers who come to ABC Family for the ‘Harry Potter,’ ‘Hunger Games’ and ‘Twilight’ franchise,” ABC Family’s Tom Ascheim said (via “THR”).

The franchise centers on Clary Fray, who learns that she’s part of a secret race of “human-angel hybrids” called Shadowhunters, thus the show’s title.

There’s no word on who will take over the role of Clary for Lily Collins, who played the part in 2013’s “City of Bones.”

Would you watch a “Mortal Instruments” series or are you bummed that the film series has been shelved? Weigh in below!
